This is a long-term game. So you have to think big, strategize where you want to go, but you execute small and you use things that are specific to something you’re doing in your job every day.
As ScaleUp leaders like to mentor people, we like to bring them up with us. I think all leaders like to do that, but in ScaleUp we really like it because we want to bring them with us wherever we go.
Because we know a lot of times we have to grow leaders, right? We have to grow leaders in the ScaleUp. Whenever we take a ScaleUp leadership role, there are usually limited resources when you first start and you’ve got to grow leaders and you want them to follow you. So that’s part of the reason that we do that.
So that’s one of the things I would encourage you to do is decide your longer-term goals or your medium-term goals, then break it down and then decide within that. Ask yourself, what is the right persona within the ScaleUp ecosystem for you to be focusing on?
A key part of the ScaleUp Exec Influencer playbook is maximizing your return of investment in the time that you’re spending on this. And the best way to do that is to use things that you’re already doing. Our inclination is to write, to educate our peers or people below us. In this case, that’s not what we’re trying to do because ultimately you’re trying to increase your network and your influence within the ScaleUp ecosystem across the globe, because it’s going to make you a much more valuable asset.
